My VoIP phone has lowered my international calling bill significantly - but now I see that Mconnect's rates are even lower. My question is: When calling to remote places overseas sometimes the call cannot be completed and I get a recording saying something in a foreign language. Is this a VoIP issue or a local issue on the other side? Curious...

Liz,
In your scenario it sounds like your call has been passed from your VoIP network to the local telephone carrier in your destination country. Your VoIP network has successfully taken your call as far as it can go and has handed it off to the local phone company where you are calling. However, it appears that the local telephone company, whether it is a mobile or landline phone company in that area, is unable to terminate your call successfully to the destination phone for whatever reason...All their circuits could be busy, etc. Because of this, it generates a recorded message saying something in the local language of where you are calling to inform you of this.
I hope this answers your question.

That sounds right, the language is vaguely familiar and I thought I heard something to that effect. Thanks for the quick response. It's nice to see a blog admin that's paying attention! I'm going to your sign-up portal now - because of your good customer service and your great rates overseas. Cheers!
