1. Requirements for Signing Up
What is VoIP?
-
VoIP is short for Voice Over Internet Protocol. This means that analog signals, like the kind you hear when you talk on the phone, are turned into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet giving you the ability to use your phone right over your internet connection.
How do I sign up for Mconnect VoIP service?
-
Signing up is EASY!

requirements are there?
What do I need to use
Mconnect
VoIP
phone service?
What is a router and do I need one?
-
A router is a network device that
manages the distribution of data to and from multiple devices on your
home or office network. Since you will want to use your computer for
email or web surfing while using
Mconnect VoIP at the
same time, you will need a router.
Mconnect offers both
an analog telephone adapter (ATA) for customers with an existing
router and an ATA/Router combo for customers without an existing
router connection.
-
If you currently have a router to
which your computer(s) are connected, you will be provided with a
compatible pre-programmed analog telephone adapter (ATA) that will
be plugged into an available port in your router. (Select
ATA
- Phone Adapter when prompted in
Mconnect's
ordering wizard.)
-
If you do NOT have a router we
will provide a compatible pre-programmed analog telephone adapter
(ATA) / Router combo. This ATA includes a router with
multiple ports for your computer(s) and phone(s). (Select
ATA/Router
combo when prompted in
Mconnect's
ordering
wizard.)
-
You can use your existing analog
telephone – it works just like the local telephone service you have
today…only better!
Will the service work over my existing
in-home wiring?
(Can I have all my telephone jacks in the house configured for this
service?)
-
It is not recommended that you plug
your ATA device into your existing home telecom wiring. Some people
have done this, after disconnecting the phone company from their house
from the outside box. This is not recommended by the manufacturer of
our ATA and any damage caused by this type of installation will not be
covered by warranty. We suggest that you seek advice from an
electrician or someone who is familiar with internal telephone wiring
on how to best connect it to your current wiring to take advantage of
multiple extensions. Be advised that any damage resulting from
practices contrary to manufacturer's recommendations for the ATA
device will not be covered by warranty.
When will Mconnect, Inc. have my area code available?
-
You can get a phone number in any of
our available area codes. However, if we don't have a specific
area code available, you can still start saving with
Mconnect
VoIP plan today, and when your area code becomes available, we'll
switch your phone number at no charge!
Click
here if you'd like us to e-mail a notification to you when
your area code becomes available.
Can I dial 911?
-
Our current VoIP service provides
911
local access to the administrative offices of the Public Safety
Answering Points, (PSAP's) or the authority capable of handling an
emergency call. Current wire line calls to E911 are routed to the PSAP
with the calling number and address information automatically sent and
validated. This differs from our current VoIP 911 scenario in that a
caller to 911 will need to provide the PSAP with their address
information and number. This administration office method is available
in most areas, however there may be some PSAP locations that will not
handle a VoIP call for 911 service because they may not have the
resources to accept VoIP calls in that manner.
Can I dial 411?
Does that make
sense? It's not as complicated as it
seems!

Can I keep my existing phone number?
-
You may like your phone number, but
want to fire your phone company. In the past, you would have had to
get a different phone number each time you changed phone companies,
but with recent legislation, there's a very good chance that you can
keep your existing phone number when you switch to
Mconnect.
*IMPORTANT NOTE* - Do not attempt to
transfer a number connected to your DSL
line. If you do, when the number
transfer occurs, you may lose your DSL
service with your current DSL provider
leaving you without the high speed internet
connection you will need to use VoIP.
Prior to making the transfer, you will want
to make sure that your DSL provider will
allow you to maintain only a DSL line
without maintaining a landline service.
If the DSL provider will not allow this, you
will want to search for another high speed
internet provider.

What are your international calling
rates?
Other than the cost of my service
plan, are there any additional fees that I will incur?
Will
the Mconnect service work outside of the United States?
-
Yes, you can take your ATA / router
with you to other countries and connect to a high-speed Internet
connection to make and receive calls. The ATA / router works on
110-volt, so you may need an adapter if the current is at 220-volt.
Flat rate calling to the U.S. will still apply, however, calls made to
countries outside the U.S. and Canada will incur per minute charges.
Can Mconnect ship outside of the
United States?
-
The standard shipping rate of $9.95
and $14.95 covers shipping anywhere in the U.S. If you do not have a U.S.
location for shipping, please call us at 1-877-774-VOIP to provide the
shipping address and receive the shipping cost. For cases when the ATA
/ router will ship outside the U.S., enter the same U.S. address for
the "billing entry" and the "physical location"
entry. The sign-up wizard will not accept an international physical
location address for shipping.
